RARE BEAUTY: STORIES STICK
Unofficial Rare Beauty Campaign Ideation for Rare Impact Mental health’s long-standing stigma stems from its negative and often violent portrayal in modern media. This extreme representation has construed society’s view of mental illness, as these depictions rarely, if ever, account for the invisible aspects of mental health. Failing to address the internal complexities of this issue denies so many people their own real-life experiences with mental health. With an increased need for mental health awareness post-pandemic, it’s time that people of all ages have models in the media they feel represented and ultimately supported by, rather than the labels and stereotypes curated on screen. Our ability to relate to one another and empathize with those struggling is the key to our collective healing. “Stories Stick” is a mental health campaign focused on healing through positive storytelling. Although our experiences and mental health journey are unique to us, we can help foster a greater sense of psychological safety in the media by promoting the sharing of positive stories and impactful resources to shift conversations about mental health. "Stories Stick" looks to show people that they are not alone in their suffering and to empower them to share their story in order to destigmatize conversations around mental health.
